Engaging in Analysis
If you go back and look at the Report 1 Assignment Sheet, I talked a little bit about this because as you read through your graphic novels (after selecting them), you should begin to start taking notes, not only for purposes of summarizing, but also to potentially analyze the graphic novel as well.
ANALYSIS MATERIAL
To help look a bit closer at this idea of analysis, I have included a link to a discussion of visual texts HERE.
VIDEOS
Additionally, I have below TWO videos discussing the matter as well. The first video has a bit of material about High School standards but if you skip ahead to the 1:36 time marker it really gets into some stuff that may be helpful for you going forward. Pay attention to the ideas of “How” and “Why” that it brings up.
I hope one or both of these videos may be helpful, but if nothing else, fall back and look closely at the example of Report 1 I have for you the assignment sheet linked above to help you out with that.

Graphic Novel Selection Process: Part 1

Here is what you should do:
Go to the Graphic Novel Selection tab on the blog site, found HERE.
Go down and either using the list hyperlinked or the larger list in the EXCEL file at the bottom, put together a list of FIVE potential graphic novels.
Create a list and post it to Moodle by Sunday, January 30.
Getting Started with Scott McCloud

To help us better navigate the world of comics and reading graphic novels, let us turn to an inspiration of mine, Scott McCloud.
