MLA Citations for Graphic Novels

Part of what you need to do for Report 1, you will need to try your hand at an MLA citation for your graphic novel. You should also provide in-text citation for any information that you either summarize, paraphrase, and/or quote directly from that source (or any source).

Use those steps to help you approach your reading and then allow that to enhance the notes you take about not only story, which you will summarize, but also the deeper elements you will want to uncover in your analysis as well.

How to Engage in Analysis

If you go back and look at the Report 1 Assignment Sheet, I talked a little bit about this because as you read through your graphic novels (after selecting them), you should begin to start taking notes, not only for purposes of summarizing, but also to potentially analyze the graphic novel as well.

ANALYSIS MATERIAL

To help look a bit closer at this idea of analysis, I have included a link to a discussion of visual texts HERE.

VIDEOS

Additionally, I have below TWO videos discussing the matter as well. The first video has a bit of material about High School standards but if you skip ahead to the 1:36 time marker it really gets into some stuff that may be helpful for you going forward. Pay attention to the ideas of “How” and “Why” that it brings up.

I hope one or both of these videos may be helpful, but if nothing else, fall back and look closely at the example of Report 1 I have for you the assignment sheet linked above to help you out with that.
